Overview

Lead with Lean

The keynote speaker of our 6th International Lean Summit is Michael Ballé, the author of The Gold Mine, The Lean Manager and Lead with Respect. Our other foreign expert is Josh Howell who works as a Senior Coach at Lean Enterprise Institute and earlier he was an architect and implementer of a lean operating system for retail stores at Starbucks Coffee Company.

Based on the feedbacks from participants of our previous Summits, this year’s event will have a new structure with hands-on breakout sessions for maximum 30 people each. We offer 8 parallel sessions (2 of them in English) in the 90-minute period before lunch and they will be repeated after the lunch break so attendees will be able to take part in two sessions.

On the 9th of May, the day before the summit, two workshops will be offered. One of them is a lean simulation led by Michael Ballé, the other will partly focus on a Starbucks case study presented by Josh Howell.

May 9 - Pre-Summit Workshops

09:00 – 17:00

Michael Ballé

How does it feel to transform your business with lean?

Lean is all about learning-by-doing: try and see, try and see. Hands learn first, then the mind – which is why classroom training is often misleading. Join Michael Ballé, PhD, in this rare workshop to experience how it feels to transform your company by transforming your thinking with a unique hands-on simulation. There are many Just-in-time games around, but they mostly focus on the mechanics of the tools, not on discovering the true spirit of lean...

09:00 – 17:00

Josh Howell

Practical Techniques for Sustainable Improvement

A hands-on workshop to learn more about Training Within Industry (TWI) program.
Companies like Starbucks have used this approach, based upon the techniques first introduced by the TWI program in the 1940s, to achieve dramatic and sustainable results. You will learn about that as a case study, but more importantly, through hands-on practice, you will be equipped to begin applying these techniques in your company as well…

Be our guest for a drink with Michael Ballé, Josh Howell and the participants of the other introductory sessions.
From 6:00 p.m. training participants are welcome to an informal meeting with the speakers. Take advantage of this networking opportunity and enjoy a glass of drink.

Lean is a method to learn to compete. By flowing better to improve quality, cycle time and flexibility, not only makes you adapt your company faster to its business environment, but you also discover what you need to learn to continue to satisfy customers. Lean leadership is about learning to lead this learning, with the employees themselves, during day-to-day work and discovering how to achieve your objectives by developing all people.

09:55 - 10:30 - The freedom of learning, learning freedom

The main aspects – and the biggest challenges – of lean thinking are capability development, problem solving and continuous learning, cooperation and mentoring. The above values are also included in the principles of Budapest School as the cornerstones of this rethought education aimed to make our children happy in 2040. Antónia Mészáros and Péter Halácsy, the cofounder of Prezi and Budapest School, will discuss his latest mission.

15:45 - 16:45 - Lessons learned on lean

Michael is currently working with Daniel Jones, co-founder of the lean movement on a book to draw the lessons of 20 years of lean initiatives, what worked, what didn't work, and what people continue to do although we know it doesn't work (but sounds good to corporate). Ask Michael any questions about how to succeed at your lean transformation.
